Saving Our Lands: New Easement Protects 133 Acres in VA
July 2013
Potomac Conservancy completed the Island Ford Farm conservation easement thanks to the generous donation from brothers Gary and Larry Vance. Located in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, this 133-acre property stretches along 1 mile of the North Fork Shenandoah River. These rich rural lands provide natural wildlife habitat and are home to pastures, hay fields, and 60 acres of pristine forest.
Island Ford Farm is a Virginia Century Farm, meaning it has been operated as a farm by the same family for over 100 years. The Vance brothers even own the original hand-drawn land grant from Lord Fairfax.
