Partner Event: Wells Run Stream Buffer Planting

  • Wells Run beside University Park Elementary School 4315 Underwood St University Park, MD, 20782 United States (map)

Join staff of the Anacostia Watershed Society for a stream buffer planting event!  You’ll be planting native trees, shrubs, and perennials in order to develop a multi-story stream buffer along Wells Run in University Park. Invasive species were recently removed, and you’ll be planting native species including: Spice Bush, Pawpaw, and more!

The new stream buffer will not only help to capture and filter stormwater before it enters Wells Run, but it will also be a valuable educational tool for University Park Elementary. The stream buffer planting is part of a larger project to install several stormwater management installations at UPES, so stay tuned for more exciting volunteer opportunities.

There is ample parking in the school's lot. Metrobus F8 and F6 run nearby on Adelphi Rd and Metrobus 83 and 86 are on Baltimore Ave. The site is equidistant (approx 1.1 mi) from both Prince George's Plaza Metro station and College Park metro, both green/yellow line.

Physical Requirements: You will be planting plants of various sizes, from small perennials to larger trees. This will provide a range of physical activity, appropriate for most people.

Note: There are no restrooms on site, please use facilities before you come! You will be provided with a large container of water but please bring a re-usuable water bottle or cup.
