iNaturalist bioblitz on the Mount Vernon Trail

  • Washington Sailing Marina 1 Marina Drive Alexandria, VA, 22314 United States (map)

About this event:

Join Tomorrow’s Trees and Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail on a scavenger hunt to find and document trees, plants, insects, fungus and animals along the Mount Vernon Trail! We'll be using iNaturalist to record our observations and participate in the City Nature Challenge for the Washington DC Metro Area. No ID skills are necessary to join, all can help!

A bioblitz is a community effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible.

Why do we need to know? Many species of plants, fish, animals are an indicator of river health! Tracking this info is one of the many parts of our Potomac River Report Card.

The City Nature Challenge is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to observe nature. Let’s see what we can find on the Potomac!

iNaturalist is a mobile app that helps you identify the plants and animals around you while generating data for science and conservation. Get the app and join our team page here: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/bioblitz-on-the-mount-vernon-trail-2025
