The Potomac Conservancy community is propelled by the energy and passion of each person who stands up for clean water and our local environment. This spring supporters and friends pulled together for the Potomac River’s progress toward a healthy future.

On May 11, over 200 river champions gathered on the vibrant waterfront in Old Town Alexandria, hosted by BARCA Pier & Wine Bar. Exceeding all goals, we are excited to share that we raised $270,000 for our clean water initiatives!

The Potomac River was a great “guest” at our event as well and a wonderful reminder of what we fight for. With one member arriving by boat, we took in the Potomac River views from all sides.

Hedrick Belin, President of Potomac Conservancy, showed the growing momentum for programs to protect land, advocate for clean water, and build on our growing community movement for clean water.

Funds raised through the Take Me to the River event are going to work right away to:

  • Accelerate our land protection in the upper watershed, and push for clean water laws locally

  • Clean up shorelines in DC, Virginia, and Maryland

  • Empower 1,000 volunteers to help the river this year

  • Collect thousands of pounds of native tree seeds to get new trees a head start for future restoration projects that protect our waterways

It takes all of us to protect the Potomac River and bring it back to health, for everyone’s benefit. We are truly grateful for our amazing, caring, passionate community! See here for a complete list of our wonderful sponsors.
