Conservation Outreach to Absentee Landowners
/September 28, 2013
Potomac Conservancy led a conservation workshop at the 2013 Chesapeake Watershed Forum, hosted by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. Sr. Director of Land Conservation, Aimee Weldon, and Landowner Advisor, Joe Thompson shared their experiences and lessons learned implementing an outreach campaign to encourage more absentee landowners to participate in conservation programs.
Absentee landowners - property owners who own, but do not operate their agricultural lands - are a large, yet under-tapped, population of agricultural landowners. This group owns between 29 percent to 73 percent of farmland in the watershed states. To learn more about this program, please visit our Non-operator Landowner Program page >
