Inspiring the Next Generation to Fight for Clean Water
Paddlers Pack Key Bridge Boathouse for a Night on the Potomac
Last Thursday nearly a hundred young professionals braved Georgetown traffic and skipped out on their typical Thursday evening activities to spend a night on the river.
The opportunity to network down by the Potomac on a warm summer evening was too cool an experience to miss.
By spending their evening on the water, first-time paddlers and seasoned pros alike had a chance to explore their hometown river, creating stories and memories that will last a lifetime. Potomac Conservancy partnered with the National Parks Conservation Association to put on this alternative happy hour.
Armed with new information about why our rivers and national parks are resources worth protecting, paddlers left with a new commitment to the Potomac. Passion for our local streams, creeks, and parks starts with having a personal connection to these incredible places.
Events like these are inspiring tomorrow’s leaders to care about our natural resources.
The night would not have been such a success without our sponsors and supporters. Our hosts, Boating in DC, offered a discount in support of Potomac Conservancy and NPCA, and Nauti Foods, the city’s first food boat, dropped anchor just offshore and donated 20 percent of the evening’s proceeds. REI showed their appreciation for our paddlers by donating a Flex Lite Chair to raffle (congratulations to Marissa on her win!).
It was a fantastic night to enjoy our beautiful hometown river. The support from partner organizations and local residents is a reminder of how lucky the Potomac is to have such a caring group of people in its corner. Keep an eye on our events calendar for more events like this in the future!
